About the Author

Andrew Rumbach, PhD, is a Senior Fellow and co-lead of the Climate and Communities program at the Urban Institute in Washington, DC. Trained as an urban planner and political scientist, Rumbach uses mixed-methods research to study household and community risk, recovery and adaptation to natural hazards and climate-fueled extreme events. His writing has appeared in such venues as the Journal of the American Planning Association, Natural Hazards, Natural Hazards Review, the International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction, and The Journal of Urban Affairs and has been quoted in dozens of national, state and local news outlets.
